Bremerton WA Armed Forces parade on May 11th, 2009.

We could not ask for a better day in Western Washington with the sun out and the temperatures in the mid 70's. A group of us met in Tacoma and rode to the staging site of the largest Armed Forces Parade west of the Mississippi. There we met other SSMC riders and Seattle USSVI personnel and the Base float.

We were in the first 25% of the 350 entries and the second of several Motorcycle groups entered. Ahead of us was the Local HOG riders and several groups behind was the newly formed Tacoma VFW riders. I felt that for our first parade duty we performed very well and we learned a lot. We will look into buying a club two staff large flag holder. We have found one on line that will fit easily on the frame of most larger bikes plus we also will install small flag holders on the bikes to display the US and USSVI flag.

After the event we all met at the Horse and Cow Bar and Grill for lunch and a root beer. Yes,,,its the same Submarine watering hole that was in San Francisco in the 50's and 60's, then Vellejo in the 70's and 80's then it moved to San Diego in the late 80's and now is home in Bremerton, Washington. We were greeted with the sweet sound of the klaxon once they found out we were all boat sailors. It was a fun day for riding and we look forward to our next parade duty in Kirkland, Washington on the 4th of July. Green board, Bob Opple, Pres.

Seattle area open meeting on May 9, 2009. Special thanks to Ted Taylor and James Wilhoit and the American Legion Post 19 staff and volunteers who allowed us the use of a room at their facility in Renton.
